The exam in Russian language, Russian history and fundamentals of RF legislation is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a work patent, temporary residence permit (RVP), residence permit (VNZh) and citizenship of the Russian Federation.
Exemptions apply to: citizens of the Republic of Belarus, persons with education documents issued in the USSR before 1991 or in Russia, incapacitated persons, men over 65 and women over 60 (for VNZh and citizenship), highly qualified specialists and their family members.
The exam consists of three modules: Russian language (reading, writing, listening, speaking), Russian history and fundamentals of RF legislation. The format and number of questions depends on the exam type (patent, RVP, VNZh or citizenship).
The exam cost varies by region and testing center. On average, the patent exam costs 3,800 - 5,300 rubles, RVP/VNZh — 5,300 - 5,900 rubles, citizenship — 6,000 - 7,000 rubles.
The patent exam certificate is valid for 3 years. The RVP certificate is valid for 3 years. The VNZh certificate is valid indefinitely. The citizenship certificate is also valid indefinitely.
For the exam you need: passport with notarized translation, migration card, temporary registration (if available). Check the exact list of documents with your chosen testing center.
The exam can be taken at accredited testing centers throughout Russia. The list of centers is available on the Ministry of Education website and on our website in the 'Exam Centers' section.
